WHAT HAPPENS WHEN A NEW YORK CONTEMPORARY CHOREOGRAPHER MEETS AUTHENTIC ARGENTINE TANGO?
Guggenheim award winner Kate Weare will answer this question during her DANCEworks residency as members of her New York based company and Union Tanguera (France) meet on common ground at the Lobero Theatre. This exciting mash-up promises to be a visceral and passionate expression of two unique dance forms.
During her DANCEworks residency, Kate will be working with and artistic director Esteban Moreno of Union Tanguera, a French/Argentinean contemporary tango company based in Lyon and Buenos Aires, on a new project (Sin Salida / In Love I Broke Beyond) which brings together artists from Argentinian tango and contemporary dance for a unique cross-pollination of disciplines, cultures and values. Performed with music by Argentine composer Gustavo Beytelmann, the show explores multiple layers of desire among the five unique dancers, blending genders, personalities, and movement languages to unusual and scintillating effect.
Kate Weare Company's residency at the Lobero Theatre begins August 7, and culminates in the premiere of the new work on September 1-2.
