Show Yourself to Me, 2018

Commissioned by Cincinnati Ballet

Show Yourself to Me is Weare’s first commissioned ballet made for Cincinnati Ballet under the Artistic Direction of Victoria Morgan for the company’s annual series, Bold Moves. While preparing to work with Cincinnati Ballet, Weare found an old Celtic folk tale, “True Thomas,” which inspired her work, Show Yourself to Me. True Thomas was a mortal man enchanted by a faerie queen in ancient Scotland. Her faerie people refused to embrace him, yet she bestowed upon him a gift: honesty. Thomas’ honesty required that he surrender himself to emotion and love, eventually following the faerie queen to the Other Side. The folk tale suggests it may be a kind of madness to show your true self to the world.

"The world premiere of 'Show Yourself to Me,' by choreographer Kate Weare… delivers an ethereal awakening of mind, body and spirit. The stunning dance abilities of this quartet showcases the power of ballet while delivering deeply intimate and connected movements. Once again showcasing the duo of Christina LaForgia Morse and James Cunningham partnered with the eerie notes from Eighth Blackbird, 'Show Yourself to Me' evokes one of the most stunning ballet performances in recent memory."
