As school carries on, in classrooms and homes, KWCo is pleased to share our chapter of New Victory Dance, the nonprofit theater's fantastic festival that inspires kids & families to engage with New York City dance! This summer they transformed their usual theater performances into a free online experience.
KWCo’s segment features an excerpt from Sin Salida, our evening-length collaboration with French Argentine Tango company, Union Tanguera. Each chapter has elements to help young audiences understand, discuss and dance with the featured artists.
For more insight you can also watch a Talk-Back hosted by New Victory Teaching Artist Penelope McCourty with Kate Weare and fellow New Victory artists Mozaik Dance as they answer questions submitted by kids from summer camps and families who have been watching New Victory Dance from home!
Kate says: I was startled when New Vic approached us after seeing this duet in a dark, smoky cabaret series at NYC’s Joe’s Pub. “Wait, you want to include this in an educational kid’s series?” Upon seeing our own segment and the diverse NYC dancemakers they’ve chosen to curate, I now understand: New Vic doesn’t talk down to young audiences! These kid-centered segments are full of a nowness that speaks to New York’s cultural heartbeat: artists, audiences, and especially, its young thinkers-and-movers.”
This is a terrific resource for the hard-working teachers and parents in all of our lives. We hope you enjoy it and pass it along!
